PORT HARCOURT: GOVERNOR Chibuike Amaechi
has said he joined the All Progressive Congress,
APC because President Goodluck Jonathan failed to
address issues raised by the G 7 governors.
Amaechi who spoke Wednesday at the Port
Harcourt international airport, Omagwa assured that
the APC would protect the interest of all Rivers state
people, adding that the state had suffered untold
neglect in the government of President Jonathan.
“Rivers State must know that for me to have taken
that decision, I had looked at the general interests
of Rivers people. I was not elected to lead Nigeria, I
was elected to lead Rivers State and I had looked at
the interests of Rivers people and have seen that
these interests were not protected in PDP. I have
seen the fact that we are losing our oil wells in
Etche, in the Kalabari areas and that the more they
continue to pilfer these oil wells, the more we will
continue to lose our wealth”, he said
The governor who denied any face off with
President Jonathan said he did not join the APC to
spite the President but to further the interest of the
state.

No decent people will remain in PDP with the way it’s being run – Nyako
No decent people will remain in PDP with
the way it’s being run – Nyako
on november 27, 2013 at 3:15 pm in news
By Umar Yusuf.
Yola: Governor Murtala Nyako of Adamawa State
has come down hard on the Peoples Democratic
Party, PDP and its leadership, saying that no decent
people will want to remain in the party with the way
it is being run.
The Governor insisted that the PDP and its
leadership has disappointed Nigerians both at home
and in diaspora by their high level of impunity and
injustice coupled with complete absence of internal
democracy and rule of law.
“No Nigerian no matter his level in the society today
is comfortable with the way and manner the country
is drifting. The image of the country is completely
eroded at the international level and yet the PDP led
government and its operators are in Abuja making
noise”, Nyako fumed.
Nyako spoke in an interview with newsmen on
arrival from Abuja at Yola Airport.
Nyako whose official car was still bearing the flag
of PDP said his continuous stay in PDP would not be
possible in view of the way some people in Abuja
are running the party in the state after the
final decision of their group to pitch tent with the
APC.
Nyako cited the dissolution of Adamawa executive
of the party by “the decision of one man”, adding
that all committees set up to look into that action by
the President recommended for the reversal of
that decision to dissolved the state executive of the
party but no action was taken.
“We have written the (PDP) several times over this
injustice and impunity. We have been negotiating for
the past one year. We have been meeting with them
but no positive result”, Nyako said.
On the decision by some G7 Governors to
disassociate themselves with the merger, Nyako
said the said Governors would soon join the
band wagon pointing out that they were just taking
time to make consultations with their people.
“It is not possible for decent people to remain in
PDP with the way its being run. Any decent man
cannot remain in this party”, Nyako said.
He announced that part of the agreement reached
with the APC was that the Governors would be the
leaders of the party in their respective states.
Governor Murtala Nyako disclosed that the way
forward on his entry into the APC will be sealed at a
meeting of stakeholders of the party in the state

Red pepper natural pain killer, says medical expert
Red pepper natural pain killer, says
medical expert
on november 27, 2013 at 1:06 pm in health
Lagos – A Consultant Neurologist, Prof. Adesola
Oguniyi, on Wednesday in Lagos said that red
pepper was a natural pain killer and an alternative
to medication.
Oguniyi, who works with the University of Ibadan,
said that extracts from red pepper were essential
in pain treatment.
“Studies have shown in some parts of the world
that extracts from red pepper, especially the
capsicum specie, can actually be used to treat pain.
“It is not the pepper that will be rubbed directly on
the affected area, it is the extracts from it which
would have been processed in a laboratory.
“It is useful as a topical preparation; when you
apply it on the skin, initially, it burns, but after a
while, the person does not feel the pain again,“ he
said.
According to Oguniyi, red pepper extract is safe for
most people, although it is not supposed to be
applied directly on open wounds or irritated areas.
He said that various types of mild and moderate
pains could be controlled with red pepper extracts
as an alternative to medication or medical
procedures.
According to him, the extracts can be applied on the
affected areas of pains such as back pains, cluster
headaches, rheumatoid arthritis, shingles and nerve
pains due to diabetes.
Oguniyi urged researchers to work toward
developing extracts from pepper in large quantity.
“We have experts and researchers in the country
who can do that.
“We eat a lot of pepper here; we have pepper in
abundance in our country; researchers should be
able to come up with something efficacious in
managing some painful conditions,’’ he said.(NAN)

40 dead, 10 injured as gunmen invade
Plateau villages
on november 27, 2013 at 11:00 am in news
By Taye Obateru
Jos— NO fewer than 40 people were killed
yesterday, when gunmen attacked four villages in
Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau
State.
Among those killed, according to villagers, were a
one-year old boy shot at close range, a four-year
old and several women and other children. 10
persons have been hospitalised as a result of
injuries sustained during the attack.
The attackers were said to have struck between
12.30a.m. and 1a.m., completely wiping out two
families.
The village head of Tatu, Da Pam Gyang Tsok, told
newsmen that they started hearing sporadic
gunshots at about 1a.m. and later discovered that
15 women and children had been killed by the
assailants.
Ten people were confirmed killed at Bwok village
and seven at Dorong.
He confirmed the killing of every member of two
households in the village during the attack, adding,
“we were shocked by the attack because we had
no quarrel with any group or person and have been
living in peace with non -natives in our midst.”
‘They wore military uniform’
A similar story was told by a community leader at
Rawure village, Mr. Job Chollom, who said the
attackers wore military uniform.
He said they surrounded the village before launching
the attack, killing a man, his wife and their young
children aged one, four and 10 years. He added that
five people were injured in the attack.
Confirming the attack, the Interim Administrator of
Barakin-Ladi Local Government, Mr. Habila Dungs
said a total of 40 people were killed in the four
villages in what he described as a well coordinated
attack.
Spokesman of the Special Task Force, STF, in the
state, Captain Salisu Mustapha, also confirmed the
incident in a statement.
According to the statement, STF personnel on
receiving the report moved to the scenes to restore
order, adding that the gunmen fled on sighting the
troops.
Villagers accuse
security agents
However, some of the villagers complained to
news-men that no help came from security men,
who were not too far away while the attack lasted.
Speaking after the mass burial for those killed at
Tatu, the outgoing President of Church of Christ in
All Nations, COCIN, Reverend Soja Bewarang
condemned the killings, wondering why it could
happen with security men around.
He urged government and the security agencies to
take necessary steps to check the frequent attacks
on innocent communities as the attackers appeared
bent on wiping out the people of the state.
STF kills 3
Meanwhile, three people were reportedly shot dead
by members of the STF at Shishiri, Pajat Ward of
Langtang North Local Government Area of Plateau
State, following a commotion during the
councillorship primaries of Peoples Democratic
Party, PDP, in the area.
A group of young men, alleged to have been drunk,
were said to have attacked one of the officials
conducting the primaries.
The security men attempted to rescue him but were
allegedly attacked, forcing them to open fire on the
rampaging youths.
The youths allegedly threw stones and other
missiles at the soldiers, who reportedly repelled
them by firing shots.
The killings resulted in pandemonium as angry
youths began a protest, creating mayhem.
The STF Media Officer, Captain Salisu Mustapha,
could not be reached for comments at press time.
APC mulls Kwankwaso/ Fashola ticket
APC mulls Kwankwaso/ Fashola ticket
for 2015 Presidential election
on november 27, 2013 at 9:02 am in news
By Henry Umoru
ABUJA- STRONG indications emerged yesterday
that – following yesterday’s defection of some
governors in the G7 group and Abubakar Kawu
Baraje led defunct splinter group of the Peoples
Democratic Party, PDP to the All Progressive
Congress, APC, – arrangements were being made
by the opposition to have governor Rabiu
Kwankwaso of Kano State and Babatunde Fashola
of Lagos State to run for 2015 Presidential election.
Vanguard gathered that the party wants to take
advantage of the performance of Fashola in Lagos
and that of Kwankwaso who is a northerner and
from a state with a very large population.
Not minding that they are both Muslims, the source
said that it happened in 1993 when it was Moshood
Abiola and Babagana Kingibe who are both Muslims
and they ran for election and won, but was
annulled. It was also gathered that APC may also
beg governor Adams Oshiomhole because of his
achievements in the state, his influence, popularity
and acceptability by Nigerians to run for the
presidency in the 2015 Presidential election.
Kwankwaso was one of the governors who finally
dumped the PDP yesterday for the APC.
