Dino Melaye
–To face charges in court today
By JOSEPH ERUNKE
ABUJA -IN less than two weeks after he was
arrested for leading a protest against Minister of
Aviation,Princess Stella Odua,over the controversial
purchase of two bullet-proof cars estimated at
N255 million,anti-corruption crusader,Mr Dino
Melaye, has been picked up again by the Police in
Abuja.
Dino,an Executive Secretary of Anti-Corruption
Network, was reportedly picked up by stern-looking
security operatives,yesterday,in his office,in Abuja.
The Police Special Team that arrested the former
member of the House of Representatives,Vanguard
gathered, was led by one Patrick Ejoh, an Assistant
Superintendent of Police, ASP,from the Federal
Capital Territory Police Command.
Although, the police team was said to have served
Mr Melaye with a Warrant of Arrest, he was
however not informed of his alleged offence.
It was gathered at the time of filing this report that
Melaye’s house was been searched by the police in
an attempt to get some vital documents..
The Police Officers were said to have arrived
Melaye’s office at about 5:20 pm with a Warrant of
Arrest for alleged “criminal intimidation and threat to
life.”
A copy of the arrest warrant sent to Vanguard
through e-mail, shows that he may be arraigned
today at a Magistrate Court, in Abuja.
“Two Police officers are presently with me and they
have come to arrest me. I did not know my offence,
the two police officers just told me that they have a
warrant of arrest on me with a charge of criminal
intimidation and threat to life.
“But they did not tell me who I intimidated and
threatened. There are two ASPs here, one of them
is Patrick Ejoh. They said they were taking me to
FCT state command,”he told journalists on phone
before being whisked away by the police.
Recall that he was recently arrested on a protest
ground near Eagle Square after leading a protest
against Ms Odua.
Before his recent arrest,a bloody clash was
prevented as members of the ACN led by Melaye
and a group of youths allegedly sponsored by the
Minister of Aviation, Princess Stella Oduah staged
demonstrations over the N255 million car scam
which was used to purchase Bullet-Proof Armoured
Vehicles for the Minister.
During the confrontation, Melaye and his men were
held hostage for about 50 minutes by a team of 200
riot policemen led by one ASP Sunday Odukoya who
wanted to arrest the anti-Oduah protesters on
claims of obstruction of traffic and disturbance of
public peace
