PORT HARCOURT: GOVERNOR Chibuike Amaechi
has challenged political leaders in the country to
take decisive steps towards tackling the twin
problem of poverty and unemployment, saying they
are responsible for the high state of insecurity in the
country.
The governor who spoke weekend in Port Harcourt
when the United states Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr
James Enwistle paid him a courtesy visit in
Government House, Port Harcourt said the twin
problems should be urgently addressed in the
country.
According to him, “until we deal with the issues of
poverty, wealth creation and unemployment, then
we may not be able to solve the problem of
insecurity”, Amaechi said.
“I am aware that you are leading a delegation on oil
theft, I know how qualified you are to take up the
assignment in one of the best countries in West
Africa with all sorts of complexities that will unravel
as you carry out the assignment. We in Rivers
State will be delighted to work with you, and I
remember that when I was Speaker, the US used to
work around here in the state, but now, we no
longer see them”, Amaechi explained.
On his part, Ambassador Enwistle said his team
was in the state to enlighten the people and also
learn from them about the situation.
